These three words were the only thing Manteo Mitchell could say to himself as he continued to run after breaking his left fibula with half a lap to go in the first leg of the 4x400-meter relay preliminaries. Afterwards he said, “I wanted to just lie down. It felt like somebody literally just snapped my leg in half [but] I didn’t want to let those three guys down, or the team down, so I just ran on it. It hurt so bad.”Manteo helped the U.S. tie the Bahamas for the fastest time ever run in the first round of the relay at the Olympic Games.
